Which battery fits my bike?

The right replacement battery depends on the type of BMS in your current battery. With a standard BMS, you can choose from different brands and capacities. With a smart BMS, you choose the matching original Phylion version.

About the Phylion XH370 bike battery

The Phylion XH370 has been one of the most widely used bike batteries in the Netherlands and Belgium for years. This Wall-E-S type battery is fitted to dozens of e-bike models from brands such as Vogue, Altec, Rivel, Troy, Veloci, Devron, Minerva, RAP, Puch, Batavus and more. Whether you are looking for a replacement battery, want to know which model fits your bike or want to understand the difference between standard and smart BMS: this page covers everything you need to know about the XH370.

What is the Phylion XH370?

The XH370 is a lithium-ion bike battery produced by Phylion (nowadays also known under the brand name Joycube). The battery is part of the Wall-E-S series and is mounted on the rear rack. It is recognisable by its black, compact housing with, depending on the model, an integrated LED rear light.

Phylion released the XH370 series in several variants. The model name tells you straight away something about the capacity:

  • XH370-10J: the first generation with 370 Wh (37V, 10 Ah)
  • XH370-11J and XH370-12J: intermediate versions with 11 and 12 Ah respectively
  • XH370-13J: the most common variant with 481 Wh (37V, 13 Ah)
  • XH370-14J: the last XH370 generation with 518 Wh (37V, 14 Ah)

All XH370 variants run on 36 or 37 volts and are interchangeable, provided the shape and the BMS type match. The difference in Ah (ampere-hours) determines how far you can ride on one charge: a 14 Ah battery offers roughly 40% more range than a 10 Ah model.

Standard BMS or smart BMS: how to tell the difference

One of the most frequently asked questions when replacing an XH370 bike battery is: do I need a standard or a smart BMS (battery management system)? The answer depends on your bike, and you can easily check it yourself.

Look at the contact points of your current battery. These are the metal slots that connect the battery to the bike:

  • 3 contact points → standard BMS
  • 6 contact points → smart BMS

There are also two visual clues that point to a smart BMS: a blue sticker with the text “Smart BMS inside”, or the letters “EN” on the barcode sticker.

Why does this matter?

A battery with a smart BMS is universally usable and works both in bikes that require a smart BMS and in bikes that were originally supplied with a standard BMS.

A battery with a standard BMS only works in bikes that do not require a smart BMS. In bikes that do need a smart BMS, a standard BMS battery may not function correctly or may not work at all.

In doubt? Then choose smart BMS. That way you can be sure of the right compatibility.

Which XH370 fits my e-bike?

The XH370 is a universal battery used in bikes from dozens of brands. Still, there are subtle differences per brand and model. Always check these four points before you order:

  • Shape: compare the shape of your current battery with that of the new one. The Wall-E-S differs from the SF-03 (Joycube) series, for example: they look alike but are not interchangeable.
  • Voltage: your current battery must be a 36V or 37V type.
  • BMS type: standard or smart (see above).
  • Connection: older XH370 models use an RCA plug connection for the charger. From the EBG370 (2024 model) this was replaced by a waterproof plug. Most new batteries come with an adapter cable, so you can keep using your existing charger.

Overview: the XH370 by bike brand

The XH370 Wall-E-S battery is used in e-bikes from, among others:

  • Vogue: including Premium, Mesina, Carry
  • Altec: including Onyx, Sapphire, Kratos, Diamond, Jade
  • Rivel: recognisable by the slightly different shape at the battery lock (model RC1701)
  • Veloci: including Spirit, Connect, Lite (folding bike)
  • Troy: various city and transport bikes
  • Devron, Gregster & Colorado: including Hamilton, Milton, Wellington, Darwin
  • RAP: including City 7, Tour 8 IPS, Suburb 24 Speed
  • Talent, X-tract & MBM
  • Minerva, Hollandia, Pelikaan, Popal, Keiler
  • Puch, Batavus, Sparta (Wall-E-S version)

Is your brand not listed? There is a good chance the XH370 still fits. The model number and the shape are what count, not the bike brand.

The XH370 is out of production: what now?

Phylion stopped producing the XH370 at the end of 2022. XH370 batteries you still come across online are almost always old stock. That is a risk: a battery that has been sitting on the shelf for a long time may already have lost noticeable capacity before you have ridden a single kilometre. Long storage at an unfavourable state of charge also increases the risk of internal damage.

The successors to the XH370

After the end of the XH370, Phylion released two successors:

Joycube EBG370 (2023–2025): the direct successor. Technically improved, but fully compatible with the XH370 series in shape and connection. The EBG370 delivers 518 Wh (37V, 14 Ah) and can be recognised by the new waterproof plug connection. An adapter cable for the older RCA plug charger is included as standard.

Joycube EBG360 (from model year 2026): the newest generation and the official successor to both the XH370 and the EBG370. The EBG360 uses modern cylindrical cells instead of the older prismatic cells. This makes the battery lighter, more stable and more durable. The waterproof housing has been improved (the XH370 was only splash-proof) and the BMS has been renewed. Available with standard and smart BMS.

Replacement batteries with cylindrical cells

Besides the official Phylion successors, there are also high-quality replacement batteries designed specifically for the XH370 and EBG370 series. These batteries use cylindrical cells (for example from Lishen) that are lighter and more durable, and often offer excellent value for money. They are available in capacities of 13 Ah (468 Wh) and 15 Ah (540 Wh) and come with a charger.

Tips for a long life of your XH370 bike battery

Good battery care makes the difference between 3 and 5+ years of use. Follow these guidelines:

  • Use the battery regularly. A battery that sits unused for months without being charged loses capacity faster.
  • Do not run the battery completely flat. If it does happen, charge it as soon as possible.
  • Store the battery in a cool, dry place. Extreme cold or heat speeds up wear.
  • Do not leave the battery on the charger for longer than 24 hours. Modern chargers stop automatically, but staying connected for a long time is not ideal.
  • Always use a suitable charger. The wrong charger can damage the BMS and void the warranty.

Frequently asked questions about the Phylion XH370

Is the Phylion XH370 still available new?

The XH370 is no longer produced. Offers on the market are old stock from before 2023. We recommend choosing a newly produced battery, such as the Joycube EBG360 or a replacement battery with cylindrical cells, for the best performance and lifespan.

Can I use an XH370-14J to replace my XH370-10J?

Yes, all XH370 variants are interchangeable as long as the shape (Wall-E-S) and the voltage (36/37V) match. A higher Ah rating simply means more range.

What is the difference between the XH370 Wall-E-S and the SF-03?

Although both series come from Phylion and look alike, they have a different shape. They are not interchangeable. Always check the shape of your current battery.

How long does an XH370 bike battery last?

With normal use and good care, a lithium-ion bike battery lasts 3 to 5 years on average. Over time the capacity gradually decreases. Factors that affect the lifespan include how often it is charged, storage conditions and temperature.

Do I need to replace my charger with a new battery?

That depends on the model. Newer batteries (EBG370 and EBG360) have a waterproof plug connection instead of the older RCA plug. Most new batteries come with an adapter cable or a new charger.

What does the warranty on an XH370 battery cover?

The standard warranty period for bike batteries is 24 months. Within this period we guarantee that the battery still retains at least 65% of its original capacity. The warranty is subject to correct use and maintenance according to the instructions.
