For 36V Cortina bike batteries with the specific 3-pin Phylion charging connection, this 42V 2A battery charger is a suitable choice. Before ordering, carefully compare the plug with the connection on your current charger and battery. Cortina has used multiple battery systems with various charging plugs. This charger is only suitable if the design and shape of the 3-pin connector match.

A solid battery charger from Sans, supplier of original chargers

This charger comes from Wuxi Sans, a manufacturer dedicated to electric bike chargers. The company supplies Phylion/Joycube (producer of batteries for Cortina, among others) and also makes chargers that various bike brands provide as standard with their bikes. You are not getting a random universal charger, but a high-quality product tailored to the intended battery system. Both a battery with a standard BMS and a version with a smart BMS can be charged with this, as long as the Cortina battery has the correct 3-pin charging connection.

Why charge at 42V for a 36V or 37V Cortina battery?

The 36V or 37V label on a Cortina lithium-ion battery refers to the nominal battery voltage, not the voltage at which the battery is fully charged. In a standard 36V system, ten cell groups are connected in series. When fully charged, each group reaches approximately 4.2V. The total charging voltage therefore amounts to 10 × 4.2V = 42V. That explains why a 42V charger belongs with a 36V lithium-ion bike battery.

2-amp charging current for daily charging

With a charging capacity based on a 2A charging current, this charger is intended for normal, controlled charging of the bike battery. For comparison: for a completely empty 14.5Ah battery, the theoretical charging time at 2A is over seven hours. The actual duration may vary, for example, due to the remaining charge, the temperature, and the way the battery management regulates the charging process.

Tips to support the lifespan of your Cortina bike battery

A good charger is important, but your charging and storage habits also count. For example, do not leave the bike battery fully discharged for a long time. If you store the battery for a longer period, take a suitable charge status and an appropriate ambient temperature into account. You can read more practical advice on charging, storage, and maintenance in our extensive guide on use and management of lithium-ion bike batteries.

Cortina battery not charging: how to find the cause?

When your Cortina bike battery no longer charges, the battery charger is not necessarily broken. A problem in the battery itself, the BMS, the charging port, or the contact between the plug and connection can also prevent charging. It is therefore wise to perform a few simple checks before purchasing a new battery or charger. With our self-diagnosis, you can more specifically determine which part likely has the fault.

With our self-diagnosis, you can more specifically determine which part likely has the fault.
